Will The Alumium-Ion Battery Be Widely Applicated At Electronic Device?

Researchers at Stanford announced what many saw as a breakthrough in battery technology at April 6. It appears that there are several advantages of the aluminum-ion (Al-ion) battery over lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, the current standard for laptops, smartphones and other rechargeable devices:

1.Safety. Li-ion battery is a explosive materials that may burst into flames, which has led to a number of recalls since their introduction in early 90s. The video Stanford released shows researchers drilling a hole through their prototype without eliciting so much as a snarl.

2.Flexible. As Scientific American explains that the battery’s aluminum metal anode (negative side) is divided from its graphite foam cathode (positive side) by a liquid electrolyte separator, which, in consumer terms, translates into a pouch as bendable—even foldable—as an underfilled ketchup packet.
3.Can be fully charged incredibly fast. Researchers managed to charge a smartphone in a minute using their prototype while Li-ion batteries require hours to fully charged.
4.Much more charging cycles, completing over 7500 charge cycles without losing capacity, compared to the typical Li-ion battery’s 1000 cycles. Previous cracks at developing an Al-ion battery usually only managed about 100 cycles.

5,Lithium is much expensive than Aluminum.
According to the advantages said above, you might be saying, eureka, they’ve done it. Unfortunately, it may be too early to declare a breakthrough yet.


The Al-ion battery’s energy density is a quarter of the typical Li-ion battery’s, according to Scientific American reports. Additionally, as Stanford chemistry professor Hongjie Dai admits, his team’s prototype “produces about half the voltage of a typical lithium battery.” He remains optimistic, however: “improving the cathode material could eventually increase the voltage and energy density.”

The same issue would likely make the Al-ion battery a no-go for smartphones and other portable devices, despite the fact that that application has generated much of the media buzz so far.

I do not trust the charging system on one of my motorcycles, and for long road trips apps like Waze and evidently the podcast player run down my iPhone 6 pretty fast. Guide of RC Battery: Lithium-Polymer Batteries Basics Part

With many advantages such as low weight, high energy density, and ever greater discharge rates, Lithium-Polymer (LiPo) batteries have been wodely used on RC. The emergence and continual improvement of these batteries has provided an excellent performance boost for RC cars, boats, airplanes, and helicopters, while also paving the way for new vehicles such as multi-rotors. All of this electric goodness does not come without a cost. If not handled and utilized properly, LiPo batteries can quickly become damaged or even catch on fire. Today, I would like to share some basic things you should know about making the most of LiPo batteries. I will also provide techniques to mitigate the risks that these batteries pose.

When talking about a LiPo, it's neccessery to know the primary characteristics to understand the battery’s voltage and capacity. This is typically noted in a shorthand such as “4S-2200”. In this case, “4S” denotes that the battery has four cells in series. The nominal voltage of each cell is 3.7 volts (4.2v fully-charged), so the total pack voltage is:

4 cells x 3.7v = 14.8v.

The "2200" means the capacity of the battery in milliamp-hours (mAh). A fully charged 2200mAh pack can provide a current of 2200 milliamps (2.2 amps) per hour before it is fully discharged. This capacity value is completely independent of how many cells are in series. In simple terms, the capacity value allows you to estimate how long a battery will provide useful power in a given application. In practical terms for RC use, the capacity rating is typically only helpful for rough comparisons of different batteries. i.e. a 2S-5000 battery will provide about double the run time of a 2S-2500 lipo in the same RC car.

It's quite common when it was 10 years ago, while is now rare to find a RC LiPo battery that uses cells in parallel. Let’s look at an example in case you happen across one. A 4S2P-2200 battery would consist of two 4S-1100 batteries wired in parallel to provide a total 2200mAh capacity. All other things being equal, you would care for and use this battery the same as you would the previous 4S-2200 example (which is really a 4S1P-2200, but we ignore the 1P). There may be a difference in physical size, but a 4S-2200 and a 4S2P-2200 are functionally equivalent. The differences will really only matter to the guy at the factory who has to assemble the battery.

The APC Mobile Power Pack can provide mobile charging for all the device that can be charged by USB cable such as Smart phone and tablets. The new lightweight external batteries enable a greater range of apps to be used for longer periods, including energy sapping applications that use location services and GPS.

Bruce Grobler, IT Business director for Southern Africa at Schneider Electric, said, the APC Mobile Power Pack is designed to ensure that users can utilise their apps when they need them – whether that means being able to download e-mail and documents, tweet, access gaming accounts or upload pictures and videos at festivals.

The smaller M5 weighs in at 142g and measures under 108mm x 65mm x 15mm, packing enough energy to charge the average smartphone twice. M5 weighs 243g and measures under 147mm x 89mm x 14mm, it provides one full charge for a tablet or four smartphone charges.

Externally, it can support 2 devices to be charged by connecting to the two output USB connections.

2016 BYD Tang: Plug-In Hybrid SUV Is First Of Four To Come

It's been more than six years since fabled investor Warren Buffet bought 10 percent of BYD Autos, one of the few independent Chinese automakers.
At that time, the company had big plans to become China's largest producer of plug-in electric vehicles--and then export them to the U.S.

While the Chinese market for plug-ins has developed more slowly than expected, BYD has persevered with a new range of plug-in hybrids.
It has been selling its compact Qin plug-in hybrid sedan for a year, and is now taking orders for its second model, the Tang plug-in hybrid compact SUV.
The BYD Tang retails for about 300,000 yuan (roughly $48,000 at today's exchange rate).

And, according to a report by Bloomberg, more plug-in hybrid SUV models are on the way--including two this year alone, to be named after China's revered Song and Yuan dynasties.
A further SUV, the Ming, will follow at a later date, according to a presentation given by the company last week.
BYD was the first company in the world to launch a production plug-in hybrid; its F3DM in 2008 was two years ahead of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt.
